The Weinstein Co. has bumped its star-studded musical Nine to December, according to Brad Brevet at Rope Of Silicon. Instead of its previously announced release date of Nov. 29, Rob Marshall’s film starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Penélope Cruz will now come out on Dec. 18 in New York and Los Angeles followed by a wider release on Christmas Day. This isn’t the biggest shock in the world; as it was, the Weinstein Co. was scheduled to open Nine and The Road on the same day. Now they’ll have two weeks between The Road and Tom Ford’s A Single Man (now set for Dec. 11). A representative for the Weinstein Co. tells me that Nine is now locked and that the move is not a result of Marshall’s needing more time to tinker with it.

Well, as a tradition, a group of us goes to see a movie every year on Christmas day….I guess we know what this years selection will be. I can’t wait to see Nine.
As long as the movie comes out this year (I’m looking at your Paramount and your idiotic decision to move Shutter Island!!) I don’t mind waiting a couple of weeks for it. The Road and A Single Man are also highly anticipated in my household.
Really wasn’t surprising.
First of all we still don’t have any posters and with The Road also bumped it made sense. Can’t wait to see it!
Not excited in the least to see this …..MUSICALS are always disappointing.
Just so long as it is still coming out this year! I’m very excited for Nine.
Whew, that scared me. When I see the word “pushed” this late in the year I expect the movie to be pushed into the wide empty expanse that is January to April.
No surprise, but as I was counting the days until its release I’m bummed I have to wait nearly another month. This is definitely my most-anticipated film of the fall/winter. Maybe they can throw us a bone and release another trailer?
I definitely feel like this shows Nine is a weak film. It seems to me that the Weinstein Co. often moves films that won’t stand the test of time – and the long-term scrutiny of critics and audiences – up in the release schedule (see The Reader, Shakespeare in Love, The Cider House Rules, or even Chicago).
Shakespeare in Love has stood the test of time for this audience member. It’s one of my all time favourite films. I also love Chicago although Renee Zellwegger definitely prevents me from too many repeat viewings.
The Cider House Rules was an excellent film that definately stands the test of time. Shakespeare In Love was also very good, and Chicago was memorable as well. I’m not sure what you’re speaking about.
If its a comedy I’ll see it.
Sir Andrew- You ARE aware that two of those films won the Oscar for Best Picture, and the other two were nominated during their respective years? Despite what they say, I DO think this is because Marshall wants more time to edit the film. Right now there’s a tug of war between him and Weinstein over a certain cut. Marshall wants a song in, Weinstein wants it out. The delay is probably because of this.
I just get a feeling that this movie will be great, or one of those bloated 1960s films that had a multitude of movie stars, but the movie sucked and ended up sinking everyone with it. There will be no in-between. And this is no “Chicago.” Many Broadway audiences had a tough time with “Nine.
Well color me disappointed on Nov. 25. I suppose I can wait until December. Now waiting until February for “Shutter Island?” That’s another story…
I saw “Nine” on Broadway with Antonio Banderas twice and a Spanish version in Argentina year ago. It’s is one of my three favorrite musiclas of al time (Rent and Billy Elliot are the others). What worries me about the movie version is the need to hire “stars” that are not great singers. Hope I’m wrong.
3 words – Daniel Day Lewis. I’ll watch him in anything.
How about Sophia Loren for best supporting actress in Nine?
