Up in the Air
And we’re off! The Toronto International Film Festival officially starts today, as do the Oscar hopes of dozens of movies. I’ve screened about 15 of the festival films already; based on what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard, here are the three or four best bets among the Toronto crop in each major category. (I’m focusing on films that already have distribution, since most acquisitions are likely to be released next year.)
Best Picture Up in the Air, Precious, Capitalism: A Love Story
Best Director Jason Reitman, Up in the Air; Steven Soderbergh, The Informant!; Lee Daniels, Precious
Best Actor George Clooney, Up in the Air; Matt Damon, The Informant!; Viggo Mortensen, The Road; Clive Owen, The Boys Are Back
Best Actress Carey Mulligan, An Education; Abbie Cornish, Bright Star: Penélope Cruz, Broken Embraces
Best Supporting Actor Alfred Molina, An Education; George Clooney, The Men Who Stare At Goats; Paul Schneider, Bright Star; Scott Bakula, The Informant!
Best Supporting Actress Mo’Nique, Precious; Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air; Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air

Who knew names like Mo’nique and Scott Bakula would be getting so much buzz! I’m kinda curious about all these movies now!
I thought Mo’nique would be a Best Actress contender, not supporting.
What was the name of the girl in Drag Me To Hell? I love her.
