you’re right Sam- I started hating on Slumdog more after it started winning awards it does not deserve. I think thats a right to hate. In your opinion, it is “FAR AND AWAY the BEST FILM of 2008″- and in mine, it is “FAR AND AWAY the MOST OVERRATED FILM of 2008″…

Are you kidding me?! RustyT no way in HELL will people ever think of Slumdog in the same light as Crash. WHAT?! OMG you are crazy! Crash was a political win, how the hell is Slumdog the same thing? I swear people just start hating films because they win a lot of stuff. Not because the films are actually deserving…Slumdog Millionaire is FAR AND AWAY the BEST FILM of 2008. Haters fall back…damn!

Actually, the best film of 2008 isn’t even nominated for a frigging best picture Oscar. “The Dark Knight” None of the other five films nominated this year for Best Picture even compare. And I am getting VERY sick of all the “Slumdog Millionare” love. Whoop-de-friggin-do. This film is no different than so many in the past. And I would really like to see Mickey Rourke win Best Actor for “The Wrestler”. His acceptance speech at the Globes two weeks ago was very heartfelt and emotional. Plus he came back out of nowhere and gave the performance of his life. Sean Penn has already won for “Mystic River.” Spread the wealth people!!! If I had to give an award for Best Picture I would pick “Benjamin Button” even though it’s LONG but still very good. I know I’m in the minority on this but oh well. I also would love to see Streep win the Oscar. Winslet is getting on my freaking nerves and all her gee whiz acceptance speeches seem very fake by now. Anne Hathaway has no chance of winning now.

Does Hollywood care that *Slumdog* is rightly being met in India with huge protests for its biased portrayal of the poor & its labeling of them as ‘dogs’? For all of Hollywood’s supposed liberalness, LA-based filmdom is really insular and shallow. Not to mention that if you strip off that gauzy layer of exotic otherness that “Slumdog” casts over its story, the goings-on are all pretty cliched; well, except for the gratuitous torture scenes. If “Slumdog” wins the Oscar, it will be looked back on like “Crash” — definitely in the “What were they thinking?” category.

Have to say Meryl’s speech was the highlight of the evening. Hoping she can pull it off at the BAFTAs and Oscars… I realllllly can’t sit through another whingy Winslet speech. Even as a fellow english girl, I hope the Americans take the win.. Go Meryl!

I’m disappointed in the Screen Actors Guild. The cast of Slumdog was good, but nowhere near the wonderful work of Milk or Benjamin Button. Grr. I hate frontrunners. Anne Hathaway for the win!
