Here’s another OscarWatch TV clip, in which Missy and I talk about the two of this year’s most eagerly-awaited Best Picture contenders, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Revolutionary Road, with a detour into what must be Oscar’s biggest mystery: Why on earth doesn’t Kate Winslet have a statuette yet? Full disclosure: Since shooting this video I’ve actually seen Button (one word: wow), but how it’ll be received by the Academy obviously still remains to be seen.

Why DOESN’T Kate Winslet have an Oscar? Can that please be the rallying cry this year during the ad campaigns? Can the critics please shower her with awards so that the Academy will be encouraged to do so as well? Can we please give her an Oscar already!
oooh oooooh, I think Twilight should win Best Picture! cuz it’s gonna rock and stuff! Stephenie Meyer’s so brilliant the way she types words and puts them together to make stories about teenage vampires! She should win best adapted screenplay too. God I love this movie though never having seen it! yay Twilight Yaaaaaaaaaaay!
There, I said what every Twilight-obsessive is thinking so they don’t have to.
I think that, in the name of change, Obama should donate his vast database of donors and extensive ground network to lobby for a Kate Winslet oscar. I think a lot of people would be receptive
Like Dave Karger, I am also looking forward to Benjamin Button and Revolutionary Road the most this holiday season. From the two Benjamin Button trailers, this movie looks like it has a magical and romantic blend that will remind audiences of the classics. Add the biggest actor on the planet, and underrated director who has never received the recognition he deserves, and you have a film for all audiences. I can’t wait to be spellbound by this film. As for Revolutionary Road, I read the novel this summer and I can’t wait to see DiCaprio and Winslet engage in a tragic and bittersweet story. Everyone’s been talking about how Winslet has been long overdue, and I couldn’t agree more. But what about Leo? Maybe this could be his year too…
It is such a tough call with Meryl vs. Kate. I love them both although admittedly I love Kate more. I want them both to win!
hahaha Nathan, good one. For a second I was about to go “oh hell no, irrational Twilight fan!”
I’ve been looking forward to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button for months; hopefully it won’t disappoint.
If Kate gets an Oscar I want her to be the belle of the ball and get it for a LEAD role but it looks like she’ll most likely get it for supporting and I’d rather her be among the group of best actress winners.
I also hear Meryl’s performance in Doubt is not very good and a few of the reviews are already unpleasant so I think Kate has a better shot to win her first than Meryl winning her third. I really want to see the Reader. It looks so interesting.
Gosh, Dave, Anne Thompson’s, of Variety, editor friend who saw “RR” their FIRST comment was “WOW !”
I guess “Wows’ are in this year
Well, Donna, only the big critic about Meryl Streep was for Variety (Who also like her in Mamma Mia!). According with many test screeners about Revolutionary Road, this is DiCaprio’s show. Winslet is fine but DiCaprio is standout. So maybe if is true about Streep and Winslet? Who’s next? Maybe Hathaway or Scott-Thomas?
We’ve had many “Kate The Greats” such as Kate Hepburn & Cate Blanchett, But by far, one of the greatest “Kate” is Kate Winslet. Ms. Winslet deserves an Oscar, and I have a feeling that her role in “Revolutionary Role” will give her the prize for 2008’s Best Actress. She is an awesome “Kate,” and I’m sure if Ms. Hepburn were here, she would undoubtedly agree.
I’ve read the ‘Button’ script and it sounds like there isn’t much Brad Pitt actually on screen so I think it will most likely get a Special effects nod and maybe a Director and Screenplay. But Leading Actor is unlikely.
