Here’s another installment of our OscarWatch video series. This time Missy Schwartz and I tackle two early favorites in the Best Actor category: Sean Penn for Milk and Frank Langella for Frost/Nixon. Both are shoo-ins for nominations; the question is whether they can propel their films into the Best Picture race as well.

I hope that it will finally be Leonardo Dicaprio’s year with Revolutionary Road.
Dying to see Frost/Nixon, Milk looks great too. I’ll guess that Michael Sheen will nab a Supporting nomination.
I havent seen Leo Revolutionary Road yet, but I have been hearing some great buzz about his performance. But hell Leo could give a better perfomance than Tom Hanks in Phildelphia he still wont win because he is LEO. Same goes for Tom Cruise there were many times he had deserved that OSCAR especially for MAGNOLIA but the gave it to Michael Cane for a movie no one even thinks about today. So this year the oscars will probably give it to SEan Penn they love communist for some reason!
So in other words, NO ONE has turned in an Oscar worthy performance yet this year. (I guess this is only November)
I hope Richard Jenkins is remembered for The Visitor.
This better be Leo’s year. His performance in The Departed was just the most recent in a long list of phenomenal performances the Academy has failed to recognize.

They ‘gave’ it to Michael Caine for his memorable performance in Cider House Rules. Who remembers Tom Cruise in Magnolia, except for the tighty-whiteys and ‘Respect the Cook’ (clean version).
I must agree with another poster, I remember the performance by Michael Caine in Cider House Rules, I vaguely remember Tom Cruise in Magnolia. I do agree you never win for what you should win for, exhibit a-Denzel Washington. I could name five great roles he has had, but no one would ever mention Training Days. Leo does get robbed though because he is Leo.
My vote is for Kirk Cameron in Fireproof, an excellent job considering the film only had a budget of $500,000.
Leo will get nominated. But unless Benjamin Button tanks like W. did, Brad Pitt wll be an early favorite. If The Soloist does well, and if people remembers W, Brolin and Foxx might force a squeeze out of Leo in favor of Pitt.
I’ve admired Frank Langella’s acting ever since he appeared in “Diary Of A Mad Housewife” of which he was robbed of a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. I’m not so sure he’ll be a Best Actor Oscar contender with “Frost/Nixon” nor the film for Best Picture. However, Sean Penn will be in the Best Actor Oscar category and “Milk” should be in the Best Picture category. But I’ll be rooting for Leo DiCaprio to take home an Oscar in the Best Actor category for “Revolutionary Road”if he gets an Oscar nod. DiCaprio has grown immensely as an actor from “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape?” to “The Departed.” Go, Leo,

I’m getting really tired of the Oscars giving their awards to actors & actresses impersonating other people, such as Forrest Whitaker (“The Last King of Scotland”), Helen Mirren (“Queen”), Marion Cotillard (“La Vie En Rose”), Philip Seymour Hoffman (“Capote”), Reese Witherspoon (“Walk the Line”)–and that’s just for the past 3 years!!! I mean, all of the above-mentioned actors were excellent, but how hard is it to play someone else? All you have to do is study the films of those people to figure out how they spoke, behaved, walked, etc. It takes a lot more intelligence, imagination and creativity to act in a role from scratch. Let’s hope the Oscars exercise that same level of intelligence, imagination and creativity when they cast their nominations.
